With all the negativity about British journalism lately, a success story!

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-16746785

"MailOnline showcases all that is best about British popular journalism. It is produced using traditional journalistic values and skills that are as old as Fleet Street itself and illustrates not just how its legacy can survive but how it can prosper as a world-beater in the digital age."

Martin Clarke, MailOnline publisher

Well done the Daily Mail, a great british institution and export.

It's because it's the best laid out news website I've seen.

Yesterday I emailed the BBC to say that their redesigned website is a big backward step. I was going to cite the Mail's as the way they should do it - but I left that bit out. Pity.

I emailed the BBC the day after it changed to say much the same. The BBC homepage is awful. More complicated with less direct content. Takes longer to use. Thankfully they left most of the remainder of the site alone.

Too many websites think the way to go is flashy sites over content and ease of use. The Mail site (whatever your opinion of its editorial content) is easy to use at just a glance, and good at reeling the user in.

I reckon it must be the cutting edge world photo reportage on world poverty, the recession, the eurozone crisis, terrorism, all the worthy issues of the day:
"Irina Shayk protects her modesty with leather mitts"
"Venezuelan beauty queen Aida Yéspica struggles to contain her curves in tiny pink bikini"
"Louboutin heels! Leggy LeAnn Rimes parades her legs in sparkly hot pants"
"White hot: Jennifer Lopez pours her curves into a saucy swimsuit for Mario Testino photo shoot"
"Victoria's Secret Angels Adriana Lima, Gracie Carvalho and Behati Prinsloo sizzle in St Barts"
"Nude photograph of woman posted on Internet is NOT Juliette Lewis "
"Jessie J wears some unflattering leopard print leggings"
"So that's how you get your bikini body! Rita Rusic tones up during a jog, while topping up sunkissed tan"

I've highlighted and enlarged the relevant point, I won't press the issue too far, but do you ever read your own posts back to yourself after you've typed them ?

Whilst I agree the Mails layout is very userfriendly, I'm afraid its very (intentional) misleading headlines causes appalling behaviour towards certain groups of people like we saw on the thread regarding bonuses. The Mail has had to issue apologies, tucked away where no one can see mind, on a few of their headlines recently. The headlines are there to draw you in and make you angry without revealing the true facts. I can quote examples but I don't want to look like I am always referencing my cirmumstances all the time. Their attitude to the disabled, public sector workers, the Scots, the BBC and anyone who wasn't born here is shocking.
