Melbourne Storm became the first Australian club to win the World Club Championship three times as they came out on top of a pulsating affair at Headingley Carnegie Stadium.
Kevin Sinfield booted a penalty from 35 metres to take the teams into the half-time break level at 8-8 but two quick-fire tries from Jesse Bromwich and Tohu Harris swung the momentum Melbourne’s way an took the game beyond the gallant Leeds side who put in a brave effort but ultimately could not find the match winning play late in the game.
An end-to-end first half saw Melbourne take the lead through a Cameron Smith goal and a Billy Slater try before being pegged back by a Ryan Hall touch down.
