Last time stains lost in the semi, they won the hub cap and failed to get to the Grand Final, not quite like the past two years when they didnt show up in the Grand Final or were they just outplayed by the better team, who again, were the underdogs???

As for the last time there wasnt one of the Big Four in a Chalenge Cup Final, erm..... TVOC!!! HELP!!! I think it was the Hull KR v Cas in the 1980's. exact year I'll have a stab at 1985 before our friends from Central Park took over.
1986 i think.85 was Wigan v Hull

Correct.

1984/85 was one of my favourite seasons and my favourite neutral Challenge Cup final, 28 - 24 to Wigan but what a great game.

A great final with Sterling, Kenny, Ferguson etc.
Who knocked us out in 84/85?
I remember been at Swinton in the semi the year before against Widnes and Hull KR the year after at Elland Road.

I seem to recall us losing at Hull in snow on tv with a bearded Tony Currie standing in at full back. Why I remember that (assuming I haven't imagined it) I really couldn't say.

Don't remember it but you could well be correct. Defeats at the Boulevard were a common thing in those days.

Think the game I'm thinking of was at Boothferry Park so it might have been in the JPS instead.

If so, I'm plumping for Bradford or Widnes as the team who knocked us out of the cup.

Leeds lost at home to Widnes in the 1st round (4-14) after beating Bridgend in the Preliminary Round.

It was in the JP semi with Hull winning 18-6.

Thanks for that.
I remember the Bridgend game because they were late arriving (due to snow i think) and it was a delayed kick off. I had to leave before the end to catch my bus home.
Don't remember the Widnes game but defeats against them were fairly common about that time aswell.

I remember the Widnes game for one of the Widnes players putting a high ball up and Paul Gill losing it in the air in collision on the way to a Widnes try. They used the footage as part of the start of Grandstand when they were rolling the titles.

The Bridgend games was freezing, Eric Grothe must have wondered what hit him, although that day it wasn't, sadly for them, the Bridgend defence !
