Accidental is my opinion. On the basis of Bentham's little step to the left, Houston is looking up at the ball, and also that I can't believe in this day that any of the players are daft enough to run straight into a ref, knowing full well that a likely van is on the cards for even putting a hand on a ref. Mitch Allgood, was it? Got reported and banned when playing for Rovers for simply putting his hand of the refs shoulder.
It's totally deliberate, scumbag had a sneaky look ahead when he's about 8 metres away which you can see in the side on shot and is about 2-3sec into the YT vid. This is not shown on the close up replays as Houston is closer than that in any case. It could have been even worse because if Bentham doesn't move to his right Houston would have run right over the top of him. Has ample time to look, it's encumbent upon him to not make contact, he makes zero attempt to look where he is going knowing that the referee is in the vicinity.
Should have got the full 5 games given that players have being given 3 for a silly push to move them out the way and Carney I think got 3 games for putting his arm up when Child deliberately walked into him.

Total b0llox as you don't know whether it was or wasn't deliberate unless you are Chris Houston. Looking at the video over and over you can see Houston looks twice and each time he looked Bentham is crabbing to the right, so Houston in the line he is running would miss Bentham had he not stopped and then leaned in to the left. As Houston has looked he has clearly made attempts to see where he is going. There also has to be some responsibility on behalf on Bentham and the officials, as Bentham being a professional and experienced ref should know that when a kick goes up a chase will ensue. Bentham has a responsibility to make sure he is out of the way for both his and the players safety. just because he is an official it doesn't make him infallible.
Some scientists claim that hydrogen, because it is so plentiful, is the basic building block of the universe. I dispute that. I say there is more stupidity than hydrogen, and that is the basic building block of the universe.

Most idiotic post ever goes to Grimmy..... The way to restart should be an arm wrestle between a designated player from each side.

How can he get out of the way of people who are coming from behind him? Or does he turn round to look at them, and miss the catcher knocking on, being tackled in the air etc? He was exactly where he should be, in order to make that call. The responsibility is absolutely with the players as they are the only ones in a position to ensure his safety.

Players and officials both have a responsibility to each other you can't just blame the players as the ref has a responsibility to ensure his and all players safety. Bentham wasn't stood still he was moving right then stopped and leaned left as Houston ran past. As a pro ref with experience he should be aware as I said of players coming chasing the kick.
Not sure if we can post video links on here, have added it at the bottom, delete if not allowed.
When Bentham broke his leg, he made exactly the same movement as he did the other night, crabbing to his right before stopping then taking a step to the left.
Players have decent peripheral vision and would be running a line to avoid him, providing he carries on moving the same way.
Feel sorry for Houston for copping a ban for us, at least we've only got Wigan and Leeds in the games he misses.

Anyone who thinks that Houston's downing of Bentham for a second time was an accident must live in La-la land. It was an assault on a referee. Unfortunately the judiciary board did not have the balls to give Houston the penalty he deserved -- a life ban.

Oh it's bollox is it? Houston has a quick look straight ahead where bentham is, he doesn't alter his course one iota. You sound like a muppet motorist, they crash into shizzle all the time and claim they didn't see anything and yet the law just like the rules of RL say it's your responsibility to not hit things you ought not to. That this isn't the first time AND he has an obvious look it's not just reckless it's deliberate. It IS a deliberate action, he made a deliberate decision not to alter his course despite having looked ahead/where Bentham was, he had about 18metres to make a decision and didn't do squat. I suppose if your wife or child are slammed into the back of by a motorist who looks but carries on anyway and causes them harm you'll be well it was just an 'accident' Make players think more about their actions just as the justice system and police should make motorists think more about their actions, that isn't by bottling it with a light sentence.
Is it just me or does it not look like Housden lifts his elbow and braces expecting contact? Bentham probably didn't make things easy, however Housden has to take responsibility for this. The last thing we need is refs leaving the game for fear of being steam-rolled by someone nearly twice their weight!
