We don't need any more back row forwards, particularly ones into their 30's. If Poore is going, we need to use his quota spot wisely on a nasty 'orrible prop.

Can't imagine the Lunt signing is far off being public. From what I've heard Campese too

Clint Newton has said he will play for Newcastle reserve grade next year.
The odd thing about it is that the coach for next year, Matt Lantry, was in the Knights junior system at the same time as Newton but is a year younger. Both were very good juniors but Lantry only made it as far as playing a few reserve grade games for Parramatta and this will be his first year as a coach at an NRL club.

If there is no struggle, there is no progress. Those who profess to favor freedom, and yet depreciate agitation, are men who want crops without plowing up the ground. They want rain without thunder and lightning. They want the ocean without the awful roar of its many waters. This struggle may be a moral one; or it may be a physical one; or it may be both moral and physical; but it must be a struggle.

Frederick Douglas

What's odd about that?

Newton never came over as having a brilliant mind for the game, indeed, Galea eclipsed him in every aspect other than coming out of the changing rooms last and milking the crowd.

Newton was good, individually, and he was fun to watch, but that was it.

It's odd because Newton has massively more experience in the game than his coach, who has one year of coaching a park level club behind him, although he has been a junior development officer and assistant coach (junior team and one year of reserve grade) at the Knights for about 10 years (after injury ended his career at age 21).
It will be a problem if coach and captain disagree on something, because Newton has the authority of having played about 250 games at the top level, winning NRL grandfinal, etc etc, while Lantry's career highlight was playing for NSW under 18s.
