That wouldn't be the case. 2 reasons they wouldn't get a spot.

1. Independent Commission and existing teams vote "no" to more expansion teams in 2013.

2. Bears don't get a spot as they're too close too Sydney and cannot proves they'll survive there.


It would have nothing to do with QLD.

I can guarantee if there was no Brisbane 2 bid an there is expansion it would be Bears and Reds. If the Ipswich bid is well constructed it will be Reds and Jets as I am sure the NRL would prefer a second Brisbane team over an 11th NSW team, just like the Titans bid which was weaker than the CC Bears bid but was given another year to improve.

I nearly choked on my brekkie when I read that in the Queensland Times this morning. There have been mutterings about this for a while, but I didn't realise a formal approach was being prepared.

I think this should be the way to go West Brisbane(Ippy and Logan) and North Brisbane (North, Redcliffe and Sunny Coast).

I think because of the GWS threat the Bears will get in shores up the Bears old territory and the Central Coast. The Bears bid atm actually reminds me of the Titans bid where most people actually can see them as favourites for expansion.

The Jets (however named) would almost certainly play home games at Suncorp. It looked built when I passed through Milton on the train home from work yesterday...

Until this season when the turf supplier changed, Etihad handled game after game just fine. As does the 'G even now. And that's without the benefit of Brisbane sun in winter.

Suncorp will stand it - and be a better use of public monies by being tenanted more often...
