In 1980 Yorkshire TV made a documentry series called Once In A Lifetime. One of the episodes was called Another Bloody Sunday and it was based around Doncaster RL's record losing run in the old 2nd Division. There is a scene where Jeff Fletcher the Huyton player coach is doing a dressing room team talk before the game. In the team talk he refers to one of his players as a poser and says [i'Forget Widnes, [uforget Salford [/uyou're playing for Huyton now' [/ithe camera does show the player but I don't recognise him. I was wondering if anyone knows who this player is? (I assume he's an ex Salford player)

Was it Don Preston?Don was a well known local schoolteacher who introduced many local lads to Rugby League in Salford. |

That documentary is an absolute classic. The PC brigade would have a fit if was these days.
I love the bit where Fletcher says in the same clip: "and don't argue with this referee, he coaches a soccer team". And he used the word soccer like he just discovered someone had just pooed in his socks!!
I have still got a copy of this somewhere. An absolute classic.  |
