Rules : Sun Mar 15, 2009 9:17 pm
I'm posting this because I had already written it before the other thread was locked.

Coach wrote:
Thats exactly what ive tried to tell him all today for some reason he isn't able to listen.

You had fending of tags today didnt you played in the right spirit i believe no problems at all what was the final score.

TBH you are making it worst by the aruging, all Mark said (in slightly different words) it that will be playing the Official (hightlighted for a reason) rules as agreed with the RFL. Because there are the RFL laws, I feel its only right to play tag rugby in this way, otherwise we are not playing Tag Rugby League, but a different sport all together.

Our game today was played in the right spirts because it was no contact allowed. If hand offs (or fending of tags) are acceptable, then to avoid these the attackers have to go in with the intention of stopping the man to take the tag, causing more contact and thats when the game turns nasty, and as has been seen many times before, turns into all but tackle.

I also think that while it should be dicussed at the league meeting, its also worth while talking about it now. Afterall one of the good things about our set up (IMBRL and TML) is that we have always been open with everything, and locking threads because people disagree with different things means we might as well not have a forum.

I locked it to stop arguing alot of effort has gone into this without someone calling me a liar.

I have also said i dont want to get in an argument but people still has to carry on and on.

Leon the rules are to suit everyone we are not arguing about it on here id rather everyone put questions together and talk about it at the meeting. Things can be taken in the wrong context on the board and id rather not have the arguments on here id rather people talk about it face to face.

If we dont have rules that suit everyone then teams will leave.

We will have a talk at the meeting till then i am not having ill feeling on the board.

I should not react to some people on here but its hard when you have put so much effort in.

as a player and an official of the leythers mb team i am really happy with the rules that have been set and as you all know us at leigh are a physical tag said and will have to tone our game down to comply with these rules. after all it is rugby league and is the game we all love because of the physicality within the game.

if they were to put a rule in superleague about minimum contact we would all go mad and probably stop watching the game because of it so get on with it and approch every game differently.

the thing is '' if you go into a game thinking you are going to get hurt then it will always happen no matter who you are'' it is all about preperation and it is all in the mind.

well done to all who has been involved in sorting the rules out and i know how hard it is to sort things out at club level so sorting things out at league level must be even harder

Having seen the rules approved by the RFL, and these rules that have been put together, the differences are very small, and people coming on here to argue and threaten to not sign up to the rules because they can't accept a bit of contact is petty, and immature.

Of course this is Tag rugby and we use the removal of tags to immitate a tackle, but to expect no contact in a game of rugby is expecting a bit to much.

The rules include a section about hi-vis clothing to be worn, and Mark and Leon, I'm sure you could both wear these to show you don't want any contact. That, in my opinion, is perfectly fine, but don't spit your dummies out over some rules that have been put together by the Vice-chairman of TML. I'm sure all these issues will be raised at the forthcoming meeting, and I look forward to seeing you there :)

I dont see a problem with the rules personally. I've played about 75 or so games using these (or very similar rules) and there has never been a problem, aside from one incident against Rochdale, oddly enough, when someone started throwing punches. I would hope that was an isolated incident though.

I wonder how having no contact at all would work, but Id be willing to try it obviously. If you dont run directly at someone then thats fine, but what happens if the defence is tight enough for there to be no gaps? What happens if someone is running at a gap and then someone moves into the gap as the attacking player is focusing on his/her teamate who is passing them the ball, contact will be inevitable in some circumstances I think. In my opinion if some contact does happen then we should all be grown up enough not to go in a huff about it and start name calling.

In all honesty, despite all of mark2's postulating, Rochdale arent exactly the cleanest team I've played against. I dont want to stoop to a low level and begin a petty arguement but maybe you should start to practice what you preach and not use foul language whilst playing, that includes calling one of my team mates a fat f****r in the recent world club challenge tournament, despite the RFL being present.

Maybe his insistence on having no contact is an effort to protect everyone else from his fists of fury?

just going off what davet has just put about rochdale being not one of the cleanest teams

apart from the grand final against york rochdale was one of the games that comes to mind that matched our physical approch to the game and as most teams know that is how we play and we got no complaints last season. the only thing that could come out of this rule about contact is a big bloody list of people up before a disaplinary (if there is one) because of teams getting on the refs back about others using to much contact and putting pressure on them to make a decision to dismiss someone

im sure all will be revealed as soon as games commence and heres hoping to a succesfull ''scrum down under tag merit league'' and good luck to all teams taking part

I echo the sentiments on here. Having read through the rules, it clears up a lot of confusion felt by sides at games last year and hopefully, once the league gets going, everyone will be singing from the same hymn sheet.

And yes, it does seem weird for someone to be complaining about the rules not being none contact enough who is from a side who has problems keeping their levels of contact in control.

Right then

I have read everything.

BOTH Sets of Rules have been written by myself, Coach and Tom with input from Oztag and RFL.

It was a agreed to have one main set and a variation set of rules for thoses teams who want the game slightly different thats all. No biggy. We are happy for any team to play both sets as long as boths teams agree. Refs will be trained to the main set of rules for TAG in general. The rules are practically identical.

The main differences are:

When agreed - hand offs and fending are allowed.

The player is allowed to stand their ground, they simply cant run and try to take the player out. Which has been allowed for years! Every attempt to get the tag must be made otherwise its a penatly.

Now relax, take a breath, dont worry about other teams. When organising your fixtures make sure you know exactly which set you are using.

Feel free to compare to http://tagmeritleague.co.uk/laws.pdf

They are near identical. Law 11 has been expanded on the one online. Means the same thing!
