I dont see a problem with the rules personally. I've played about 75 or so games using these (or very similar rules) and there has never been a problem, aside from one incident against Rochdale, oddly enough, when someone started throwing punches. I would hope that was an isolated incident though.

I wonder how having no contact at all would work, but Id be willing to try it obviously. If you dont run directly at someone then thats fine, but what happens if the defence is tight enough for there to be no gaps? What happens if someone is running at a gap and then someone moves into the gap as the attacking player is focusing on his/her teamate who is passing them the ball, contact will be inevitable in some circumstances I think. In my opinion if some contact does happen then we should all be grown up enough not to go in a huff about it and start name calling.

In all honesty, despite all of mark2's postulating, Rochdale arent exactly the cleanest team I've played against. I dont want to stoop to a low level and begin a petty arguement but maybe you should start to practice what you preach and not use foul language whilst playing, that includes calling one of my team mates a fat f****r in the recent world club challenge tournament, despite the RFL being present.

and i was really insulted! No, really!!

After being the one on the end of one of your "punches" Mark, to say SWARM wont be having any contact at all is a bit rich. We played Leigh last season at their place and was one of the better games of the season despite us losing because it was played in the spirit that Rugby should be played in.

Might help us to remember what got us started watching rugby in the first place all those years ago and i bet it wasnt because there was the prospect of absolutely no contact in the games.

I think the key here is as long as you're are attempting to get the tags - so no bigs shoulders etc just to prove you're a big boy in the world of tag, and that you are in fact a full contact player. That said, contact is inevitable, you cant have any form of rugby without contact - introducing complicated rules to govern it wont work. Defenders have to attempt to make a tag - if they want to put themselves in the way so be it. Any defenders have no place putting their arms above the midrift (chris t should be excepted from this rule) - the tags are not there. Attackers should be allowed to prevent people from tagging - so that doesnt mean handing off in the mush (trying to make a good tag with fingers up your snout is difficult).

Even if we wanted to change the rules, no way should we go back to the mess that was created last year.

It also depends on your point of view. For many who have played in our league over the last year, they see Tag as a step down from full contact. This often means people who don't want to play full contact (normally because they got were scared of getting "bullied" or injured") but still want to "bully" opponents will do so.

However Tag was never meant to be like that. Tag is about encouraging anyone, of any age, gender or ability, who wants to play rugby in a safe manner can do so. It should be seen as a step up from touch, where running lines become a bit more important and more thought having to go into defensive structures.

In Wakefield's case last season, we lost most of our games not because we were the poorer team, but because we not out muscled. In anything other than full contact (and possible Masters) this shouldn't be the case.

On other note is that yesterday a Tag Rugby Tourney was held which contained three amateur teams (making up over half the players). I spoke to most of the players afterwards who said while it was difficult getting used to not making a tackle, they really enjoyed it and would consider giving it another go. This can only be a good thing for our sport.

If you want the mess that we had last year, then create your own league. However I know that many of the teams currently in the TML won't support it, and it'll lack the support it'll need from other parties to create any opportunities from it.
