Hotel delle Rose was were we stayed, basic but cheap in comparison, a little out of the main areas, but we preferred that. The owner was really nice and gave us lots of suggestions for our stay.

Stop in Riva del Garda or just outside. Been twice. It's very lovely and the liveliest place. Stopped at the Mirage. Limone, Torbole and Malcesine at the top end are close. All worth a visit. Sirmione is very nice at the south end, but flat.

The ferry service from the bottom of the lake to the top and back is an excellent way of spending a day.
