How on earth can a sporting stadium NOT be a public place?

They're full of the public. They may have paid to get in, but no one has gone "Nope, sorry, private property". FTR you can film private property too, there is no law against that unless it can be shown to constitute a national security risk.

You may wish to argue that, but it is the law, and has been shown to be the correct interpretation.

I think you're wrong mate, if the owner of a private place says you can't film, you can't film.

Funny this is brought up, i remember Del Piero scoring Italy's 2nd goal in the World Cup semi-final against hosts Germany in 2006, finally finishing the game off, about 2/3 seconds after there was a shot of a crying German bird in the crowd, i always did think ''that was quick''.
