I am passionate in thinking that gay marriage is not right but that apparently makes me a homophobe. By the same token this guy must be anti-semitic? After all he apparently referred to "the Jews" (maybe as a derogatory term, who knows?) rather than the sovereign state of Israel.
As he hasn't criticised all Jews or anyone for being Jewish and limited his comments to being about Israel we don't know that he is anti-semitic.
When he referred to "the Jews" earlier in the year he said that he was "
saddened that the Jews, who suffered unbelievable levels of persecution during the Holocaust, could within a few years of liberation from the death camps, be inflicting atrocities on Palestinians in the new State of Israel and continue to do so on a daily basis in the West Bank and Gaza".
The Board of Deputies complained about that as it "
deliberately abused the memory of the Holocaust".
Quite how they came to that conclusion is beyond me but there is a view out there that criticising Israel is automatically anti-semitic, a view which to me is utterly ridiculous.
