Freedom without Socialism is privilege and injustice.
Socialism without freedom is slavery and brutality.

Andy Worthington's blog/site

Have had a quick scan through and it doesn't appear to mention numbers.

In an NHS article they are saying that the recession is causing a rise in suicides

A dog is the only thing on earth that loves you more than he loves himself.

When you rescue a dog, you gain a heart for life.

Handle every situation like a dog. If you can't Eat it or Chew it. Pee on it and Walk Away.

As for your quote on benefits, you conveniently didn't quote the figure for underpayments which iirc is a bit more than overpayments. (I too have the same document but not to hand)

Are you not aware of the 32 suicides a week due to benefit cuts or do you simply not care?

The thing about pension savings is that apart from for the very high earners it is unaffordable. Need to save about 20% of gross pay all your working life.

So, you are guessing, right?

Shift the burden of pensions for the low-paid onto the state?
Interesting.

Why don't you tell us what you would cut then? Even Labour would be cutting if they were in office.

It's easy to sit there and crticise and by their very nature a 'cut' is going to mickey somone off.

So let us know what you would cut and we can let you know about the people it will mickey off.

Perhaps shut down the planning department so your neighbour doesn't need permission to build a block of flats in his garden that will keep light from your house.

I think you've been infected by Dallyitis - an impression that public services are irrelevant and we can get by without them (even though central government would have to fork out dole payments to those who lose their jobs and even though the private sector equivalent is likely to cost more)

Would you? Hmm what a strange choice.

How about going here

An old job, but a good example. £60k p.a..........................

I would look for inefficiency first. Look at the back office/admin staff. I understand the need for equity, but must we staff our local authorities with people with an IQ of less than 100?

Cut the waste, employ decent people. There are enough on the dole atm.

Then of course there is the efficient spending of money. Instead of building pointless "speed bumps" and ridiculous roundabouts, errecting silly signs that no-one cares about, then whinging about "Government cuts", maybe spend the money on things such as refuse collection, street cleaning and lighting?

Well without knowing his salary, then your figures are pretty pointless aren't they?

If he earned £1m a year then I would agree with you.

If he earned £5k a year then I would say those benefits are over the top.

If people are so weak that they wish to commit suicide then that's their decision.

Have you ever experienced the "real world"? I suspect not.

If you honestly think that ANYONE in the UK can claim true poverty, then I suggest you visit SE Asia, Africa or South America. There you will see TRUE poverty.

Frankly the attitude of many in the UK is nothing short of pathetic.
