| Quote El Barbudo="El Barbudo"As you say, true to form.
Philips is a big fan of Zionism and Palestinian-bashing.
If the taking-the-Book-of-Revelations-literally Bible-belt's favourite had won, Netanyahu would have had free rein.
Not that Obama has had much success in getting Netanyahu to cease the ever-expanding Lebensraum across the West Bank, at least he wouldn't give it his blessing as Republicans have always done.'"

It was just funny that because he didn't get the result he wanted that suddenly meant the US was no longer a democracy and somehow it was a false result.
It's also the funniest time to watch Fox News right now. You can tell they're just itching to constantly scream "F*CK THE LOT OF YOU!! ITS NOT FAIR!!" and then stomp off to their room. Also it's cringe making to hear them constantly saying how wonderful it is that the US is a democracy and that the US has this kind of thing. I sometimes think that they think the US is the only country in the world to hold elections and they they invented it.'" I was really enjoying watching 'The Five' on Fox yesterday evening. That's the show where four far right nutjobs and their token liberal stooge sit around a table and the stooge gets beaten up before finally agreeing to their point of view. The four main players were hilariously gutted:
mediamatters.org/video/2012/11/0 ... guy/191234
mediamatters.org/video/2012/11/0 ... y-i/191231
The problem for these guys is that they genuinely believe Obama is a Marxist or Communist or Socialist, which is insane. He's as moderate as can be, veering to strongly conservative on some matters (much further to the right than Miliband for whom I could never vote). They have painted this parallel universe for themselves for the past four years and just can't see that the rest of the country knows it's not true. It's hilarious

| Do these guys read a different version of the bible to the rest of us (well to the version that I seem to recall seeing bits of when I was at school anyway)? I didn't realise Jesus and God were proponents of free market economics and the interests of the one trumping the needs of the many?

| It really is frightening the degree to which some Americans are effectively brainwashed. Otherwise normal, relatively smart, human beings just completely wall themselves off from reality or from logical, rational thinking.

What is strange is that its a basic fundamental clause in the Constitution that the State will be independent of The Church, thats an absolute.
We don't have that here, we even have church leaders voting in our Parliament.
And yet which is the country who believes that God instructs them to go to war ?

Having had the book in question shoved down my throat, I'd argue that, if you actually read the book, then it's pretty much the opposite (inasmuch as you can apply stories of ancient times to a very different modern world). But then again, my own parents, who could be quite fundamentalist, would suddenly discover 'pragmatism' when it suited, yet preach 'The Book' when that suited.

Well that is what makes me laugh (or cringe) when I hear religious right-wingers in the US saying things like "Obama will rip up the Constitution", yet insist on trying to force their religious views on many issues on the rest of the US.
Same goes for guns, the pro-gun lobby and supporters continually quote the 2nd amendment, except they leave out an important part of it.
They pick and choose which parts of the Bible and which parts of the Constitution they want to follow and then decry anybody who doesn't follow those parts.

Never mind the Bible, isn't it the case that 40-odd percent of the US population voted for a man who has magic underpants, and believes he will get his own planet when he dies?

I heard about his magic underpants but what that is supposed to mean I have no clue and the same about getting his own planet when he dies. These Mormons are strange aren't they ?
