Now I'm sure a lot of people have heard about Terrance Mallick's new film The Tree of Life, and how mind blowingly amazing it is. Now I'm a big fan of his previous films, The Thin Red Line inparticular, however I found The Tree of Life to be 2 and half hours of pointless style over substance. It has some really mezmerising visuals and is almost hypnotic at times, but I was unable to grasp what the plot or the point of it was, it just didn't make sense to me.
I love it.
The Thin Red Line is the least interesting of his films for me and
Tree Of Life, I will go so far to say is his best but I thought
The New World was brilliant and his best before this. Both are quite abstract and although it's a bit more straightforward,
Tree Of Life (i.e. the clue is in the title), I loved it and found it quite emotional at times. The cinematography was incredible and that first hour was just mesmerising and had me thinking, finally a film that makes
2001 look dated.
