Freedom without Socialism is privilege and injustice. Socialism without freedom is slavery and brutality.

An old mate of mine back in Hull is of Polish extraction and prior to their greater freedoms, his family would occasionally visit. When they came across they'd be laden with suitcases full of different flavoured vodkas, I would swap a suitcase full of designer clothing for a suitcase of vodka. The best thing about their arrival was the obligatory tasting session, where we'd try all the different flavours. It was at one such session that I first encountered Bison Grass vodka. When I enquired what it was flavoured with I was told, "whatever the bison do on the grass"
You've put your finger on what I don't "get" about vodka.
i.e. It's a neutral spirit, unlike beer, wine, whisky, brandy, rum etc.
They all may have their flavour augmented by hops (in the case of beer) or the barrel's vanillin (the others) but the basic taste of what you're drinking is there.
I guess the exception to my rule is gin ... and I "get" gin.

I can think of a few pastimes that involve dunking things in vodka (or <insert alcoholic beverage>). Nowt to do with biscuits though.

The best pissup I've ever had involved putting lots of Gin into very small amounts of fresh orange juice.

Buy the right vodka and you don't even need ice.
