There is (or was) a Sainsburys there now.

That's the location... and "wooden one-storey shack" describes the buildings.
I don't remember the pub but it sounds like it fitted in perfectly.

Aye, it only ever made money when The Dominion was a gig venue as soon as it went back to theatre the taking went right down.

I might be older than you, the Dominion was in one of its cinema incarnations at the time I'm referring to, Lawrence of Arabia was showing there for what seemed like years.
Back on the topic of food, and in that era and area, you could still get a decent salt beef sandwich in Goodge St, I bought my first ever kebab takeaway in Goodge St too (different shop), it was a lamb shish in pitta bread (all new to me then), included on the sandwich list as a "kebab sandwich".
It's all flooding back now ... there was a "Golden Egg" on the corner of Goodge St and Tottenham Ct Rd ... maybe I'd better stop at that point. :D

Talking about The Blue Posts there was a pub of that name on Kingly Street which I used to frequent occasionally.
Used to be a cracking sandwich shopdown there as well.
Think it was an Italian female who managed it.

There's about half a dozen of them, all in a reasonably small area.

I remember drinking in the one on Tottenham Court Road in 1973, it was a shoitehole that only served keg crap. What I remember most was getting ripped off by a bunch of Irish builders after me & my mate had painted a house they'd converted to flats. Instead of the £800 agreed, we ended up with £400 and a lecture on hard times. We did get our own back though when we returned to the house to collect our gear and while they were still in the boozer. We took the opportunity to paint C**TS in bitumen on every newly emulsioned, recently re-plastered wall

Try the mintballster, it's worth checking out her blog too.

I only tend to grow stuff that you can't usually find in the shops, like mouse melons and other such weird veggies

I've been growing stuff for a Couple of years since I got to the top of the allotment waiting list.
If you're looking to get an easy start this year there's still time for a few veg. Swiss chard, pak choi, dwarf french beans and hinese cabbage should all do ok grown outside from seed this time of year. Good luck anyhow

I'm trying – having started last year.

I started with a small patio and some pots, and then expanded into one of the flowerbeds in the carpark at the back of our block of flats, after the housing association had let it run to weed.

Nothing was helped last year by the weather. Not helped this year by the, err, weather. :)

But enormously rewarding when it comes off – and I really am a complete beginner.

Thanks to Coddy for the mention: I've been blogging about the experience – things I've learned (or not!) and various experiences. It's a general blog, but there'll probably be a post including an update about this tonight or tomorrow.

My experience too :D
I tried a few trays of various green leaf salad type stuff, lettuce and couple of trays of herbs inside a poly-stand thing and also planted a lot of lettuce in a grow bag with my own patented stick and polythene constructions over it.

Everything sprouted fine but that year we had a very warm May, a soaking wet June and a hot couple of days in July - everything started like a house on fire, took ages to continue growing after that and then got almost 100% wiped out when I forgot to take the poly off during the hot days

Moral of the story is, don't just plant them and walk away, I suppose thats why we have farmers.
