Except for in the circumstances I described; the EU 27 would undoubtedly allow the UK to postpone Article 50 - and it can be rescinded altogether without their permission, should a PV happen and the UK demonstrate that it's changed position.

I don't necessarily advocate it, but those people suggesting Corbyn is offering something he can't deliver, are demonstrably wrong; if there's a GE, which is the Labour position, all options really do remain on the table.

You may be right about Corbyn, only time will tell BUT, another round of negotiations (even with the EU being more amenable, which has no certainty), will still take another 18 months + and with no guarantee of being any better than May's deal (although it could hardly be much worse) and business is struggling NOW. We've had 2 years of crap, still have to negotiate a trade deal and the uncertainty is damaging an already fragile ecconomy.

All the dreaming, frustration and optimism in the world wont change this and right at the outset, the timing of the referendum, when we have been crawling out of 10 years+ of austerity was bloody reckless but, what do I know, I'm just a bang average northerner

Jared now asking the French to do more to help deal with the new round of boat people.

The French response will be to say FO.

This will get a lot worse before it gets better.

Why would France want to do anything to stop immigrants in Calais when letting them through makes things easier for themselves.

Welcome to Brexit

Worse?! Worse than a few dozen desperate people crossing the channel in a dinghy to seek asylum? Hardly a national crisis is it?

Seems you've bought the Tory and MSM line that this is some kind of emergency - carefully timed to fill the headlines over the recess and stoke more anti-immigration sentiment. But it's ok - Sajid Javid, like Batman, has mobilised himself to deal with it - you'll be fine!

Welcome to Brexit

Very little or nothing to do with Brexit. Just more xenophobia & racism from the right wing gutter press to divert attention from the disaster at home. Javid tries to show how hard he is by appointing a gold commander & calling it a 'major incident'. The numbers risking their lives crossing the channel is a small percentage of the total numbers seeking refuge in the UK; the vast majority arrive by plane. Hundreds of thousands arrive in Greece & Italy by boat. 10,000 arrived in Greece in one day.

Javid thinks he’s got to look tough to appease the hard right racists in his party. The numbers are incredibly low. He should grow a pair and stop playing to the gallery.

If the UK really is so xenophobic ,shouldn't we really be asking why the other 27 countries of the EU are not giving the same deal to migrants as whatever it is that attracts so many people to our shores. Is it our fantastic weather or because the UK is a soft touch?

Far more go to other EU countries than to the UK. As one of the wealthiest countries in the world we ought to be able to deal with 10s of asylum seekers comfortably.

Haven't you had the memo? They're not asylum seekers - they're migrants - filthy illegal migrants, invading our country and using all our resources...

I was making a broader point about international co-operation. Britain will find it harder in some ways to manage its border without the help of the French. Following Brexit I don’t see the French being particularly sympathetic.

We'll be fine - I expect to see Said Javid and Nigel Farage patrolling the channel in their very own gunboat, blasting rubber dinghies full of kids to smithereens, to the gleeful cheers of rampant xenophobes.
