I think Cameron mistakenly sees it as a get out of jail free card. In the US as the gas is not put on the open market and has resulted in much cheaper retail prices it has had a pretty big effect on the economy. I think Cameron is hoping for a similar effect here which would after all absolve him and his government from actually directly stimulating the economy in sensible ways. He can just sit back and let it all happen.

Or to put it simply I think Cameron is blinded by that I.O.D report and thinks we are on for another North Sea Oil bonanza. Which if true shows he is a bit thick!

Or a third alternative, which would explain the graphic FA posted, and many other policies – is the simple greed of individuals in government and their friends.

I deeply dislike the phrase 'class war' (it's a cliché that does nothing to forward genuine debates), but when you look at this lot, who supports them and what they're doing, it's rather hard not to see it in those terms. Or at least, if the aim is not that, then the effect is a massive attack on anyone who happens to be 'lower' in society than them and the aforementioned friends.

Interestingly the leader of East Cheshire council, a Tory council, has said there won't be any fracking in East Cheshire. I bet Osborne is pleased.

Interestingly the leader of Cheshire East Council also failed to mention the many solution mined salt cavities across (South) Cheshire now used by some of the energy giants to store 'traded' natural gas.

I doubt the cavity operators would be impressed by other organisations fracking and releasing gas from their underground stores.

Given the top-tier COMAH status of these facilities I don't think that fracking would have been given the go ahead in these areas anyway so it was probably worth his while scoring a point.

That would stil leave him free to undermine the foundations of George Osborne's house with a bit of fracking further north in his Tatton constituency.

Who for? A Tory coincil which has Osborne's consituency in it coming out saying it won't be takIng the offer of 100% of the business rate by agreeing to fracking the day after Cameron anncounces the policy is a bit of a slap in the face for a Tory PM wouldn't you agree?

Indeed. My comment was very much tongue in cheek as it appears that Mr. Jones is now something of a minor environmental celebrity in these parts of South Cheshire. However it also appears that many of his new fans are totally unaware of the gas storage facilities and that permission for fracking would likely be refused anyway.

Still no links and answers from Ajw71?

I must say that I'm surprised.

It's particularly shocking since he's looking at this forum even as I post.

War does not determine who is right - only who is left.

Without me trawling through his posts, can you tell me if he knows how to post a link.
It's unlikely I know, but.......

Well, he can manage to post a graphic.

Although even if the links were beyond him, one would think that he would be able to answer Sheldon's really quite straightforward questions.

He's here right now, so hopefully ...

In the meantime:

Oh yes, the risks are very small.

Threats to health and fertility if there are leaks, reports lefty mouthpiece the Telegraph.

A piece from Time.

Scientific American on the problem of all that contaminated water.

I really must read the AUP some time and see if stalking is allowed, as there appears to be one or two obsessing over AJW's contributions.....

If they wish to start fracking in Yorkshire, then Bradford town centre is the obvious choice. There's been an enormous hole there for years, and with no real prospect of that changing anytime soon, and with half of the digging work already done, it must surely be an attractive engineering proposition?

Only if there's shale gas underneath though, surely.
