Herd immunity was all about keeping the economy going - the view was lots of people would get mild symptoms and carry on.

As it is we have trashed the economy - happy days

You are making a massive leap that Burberry could have started 10 days ago - which is very unlikely as A) they would have needed to get the material B) they would have needed to rejig the machinery to produce these garments C) they would need to train the staff

This is the problem with you Public sector administrators - incapable of actually thinking through an issue.

How long after c19 was identified as a concern and that government estimates on infection was that they needed to be ready for a major outbreak was that.

Totally agree.

The world was alerted to the problem in China and then a major problem in Italy but, the UK chose to act when cases started occurring here, instead of covering for the problem.
There has to be some sympathy for the scale of this thing and the fact that every nation on the planet is affected and all are looking for the same remedied, in terms of drugs, PPE etc.

However, for me, it's the arrogant attitude of government ministers, telling us that there is no problem and then going on to blame mis use of these items by frontline workers that really irks.

There is absolutely no humility from the Tories whatsoever and as usual, they are looking to move the blame as far from their own front door as possible.

I am not disagreeing with you - but then so have most of the governments across Europe - its what happens when you get a once in a generation public health emergency and you have a load of public servants dealing with it.

I agree about sourcing the material that is harder.

In terms of Rejigging machinery and training the staff. I know someone doing that at the Barbour factory in South Shields . She said that took about half an hour . Following patterns , cutting cloth and changing needles and cotton is what garment makers do every day.

Volunteer sewing groups have been learning how to make scrubs at home with a one hour tutorial off YouTube.

That is the problem with you capitalist types you think workers are stupid and cannot do things without you explaining it. Workers just want to get on and make a difference whilst you spend all your time thinking about profit margins

I think that is a bit harsh - could they have done things differently of course they could have - has this been through lack of effort definitely not. It takes a lot to push the economy back 10 years in a matter of months and I genuinely believe that was what they were trying to avoid. These are big decisions that I doubt any of us would want to have to take.

It is not this is about people dying.

Today the sun and the times hopefully they are right wing enough for some of our posters to accept report that there have been 7500 deaths in care homes. Add that to the announced figures from the government in hospitals and it means we are a about 200 behind italy on total deaths.

With the announced death rates following similar trajectory’s As yesterday that means Britain may overtake Italy today in number of deaths.

That makes Britain the worst in Europe and second only to the USA.

Nobody thinks employees are stupid you wouldn't employ them - if you did your firm would be worse for it - unlike the public sector the only way you can keep these people in jobs is to ensure your revenues exceed your costs i.e. profits - sadly a misunderstood concept from you public sector administrators - that is what its like at the sharp end.
