The most disgraceful part of that story is this quote ... And this applies to all colours of government, current and previous - who decided that the formation of an economic policy for the UK depend on whether or not you'd lose votes in certain parts of the country ?
Aye, those ungrateful oiks up North won't vote for him, right then, we'll stuff 'em good and proper.
You know, when I read stuff like this, I want devolution for the North, I don't really want to be part of the shallow, Boris-loving tendency of the South East.
If we're devolving, can we let the Lankies have Todmorden back now it's had a wash?
Have it back? Half of it was never in Lancashire, even the Town Hall literally straddled the border.
With the amount of mud left behind after the floods, I wouldn't call it a wash, it looked like large lumps of Lancashire washed into Yorkshire. If they want that back, they are welcome to come and get it.

The Ministry of Justice produced a video for publication on youtube, informing benefits claimants how best to approach an appeal tribunal. Atr the insistance of Chris Graying, the video was pulled and when it later re-appeared, was pulled again.
So, it now appears that the DWP are not only content with removing benefits from the most vulnerable, they want to make sure that those whose benefits were removed unfairly, can't get a chance of winning an appeal.

I've been a bit busy of late, so I might have missed it, but has Sal Paradise been back yet to explain what happened when he reported his drug-peddling, benefit-scrounging relative to the relevant authorities?

A list of suicides where benefit changes had some culpability.
Sleep well Mr Duncan Smith?
One more to add to that list. A lady called Wendy Hills killed herself this week because she lost her ESA and was so frightened of losing her DLA that she could no longer carry on.
