"Brian McDermott, with a wry smile, nods when asked if he remembers a specific incident which made him realise he was a prick. 'I do', he murmurs."

Just have a bit of sympathy for their plight will you?

The ease with which some people have become comfortable with minimising or even celebrating the loss of human life shows how unhinged, how full of hatred, a segment of our country has become.

They are utterly convinced that it's the people below them dragging them down not those above pushing.
It's migrants' fault the nhs is so busy it's close to failure. It's migrants who are clogging up the public housing stock. It's immigrants who are taking all the well paying jobs.

It's not the government who has criminally destroyed health spending, who has shown no interest in building homes for the poor, who has overseen a low skills, low pay, rights-free workforce.

Instead the venom is focussed on those who have the least.

In Robert Kennedy's words, "We must admit the vanity of our false distinctions among men and learn to find our own advancement in the search for the advancement of all. We must admit in ourselves that our own children's future cannot be built on the misfortunes of others. We must recognize that this short life can neither be ennobled or enriched by hatred or revenge."

Go on then give me a rough ball park figure as to how many we should take. Bearing in mind a large proportion of these come from all over Africa and the Middle East.

According to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, by the end of 2018 there were 126,720 refugees, 45,244 pending asylum cases and 125 stateless persons in the UK.

That’s around one quarter of a percent (0.26%) of the UK’s total population

We currently receive around 35k asylum applications per year. France receives around 110k per year, and Germany receives around 150k per year. Asylum applications for the UK are less than half what they were 20 years ago.

Roughly speaking our population is 2 or 3 million more than France. Compare the land mass then take on board we are the most densely populated major country in Europe. Nobody knows how many illegal immigrants are in the uk, certainly the ones who break free from boats and trucks without being apprehended seem to disappear without any problem. I certainly don’t blame anyone trying to reach England and achieve a better life irrespective of the legality. Be interesting to see how the Labour Party handles this toxic scenario at the next election, certainly the majority of the working class are totally against mass immigration.

Well if we are so densely populated, how come the tories have let in 50,000 Indians, 50,000 Hong Kongers, 50,000 Afghans, and 50,000 assorted in the last 6 months :D

And neither would any Lancastrian.

Could be wrong, but if the refugees attempt to gain entry undercover/smuggled in etc doesn't this automatically also then classify the person as an illegal immigrant ?

I could be wrong myself but if any refugee reaches land in the UK and claims asylum, they are classed as refugees under international law.

After processing their application, they will either be granted asylum or, deported.
It was a relatively easy,, whilst we were member of the EU to send them back to France, or wherever it was in Europe they originated from as this was what the EU members agreed.

Good question, I suspect that we had a duty of care for the Afghans, probably the Hong Kong contingent had plenty of money. As for the Indians I have no idea. By the way I am certainly not defending the Tory party.

Any chance you could supply the figures that we supposedly sent back to France whilst we were still in the eu.

Then you have nothing to worry about after all Boris is well known for his skills running the country and he is surrounded by the great and the good.
We will have to forget the way that Milliband made Boris look the fool in a debate. I definitely look forward to Priti against Yvette Cooper when she defends some other half baked idea for keeping those pesky refugees out. My particular favourite was the wave machine to drive the boats back. I suppose in Summer it could be used to practice her surfing skills. The border force jet skis could be hired out from a beach in Kent because they are of little use in the English Channel.

What do you mean by the term those pesky refugees blink?
