If people "genuinely" cannot work - probably about 1m through mental health or disability the state needs to provide for them. That doesn't include those who don't want to work and use disability as an means to an end.

With regards to what the minimum wage needs to be this is trade off between paying benefits and receipts from business in the form of CT and employers NI. What you could do is increase minimum wage to £10/hr and personal allowance to £20k and take all those on minimum wage completely out of the tax picture. Then you wouldn't need to pay benefits - much more efficient - but then you would have a load of civil servants with no job?

I wish my cancer diagnosis was worse than it is so I don't have to work ever again .......... said no one ever!

Why don't you speak to disabled people and ask what they think instead of spouting absolute rubbish.

I like that one too - I often say it to myself as I sit in a hipster café drinking artisanal coffee from a hollowed out avocado, whilst reading the Guardian on my iPad.

That sounds like my life in Ilkley, where I maintain to the private school educated Mrs tigertot that i am still working class. She almost chokes on her goji berry & quinoa salad.

I will let you into a little secret, but keep it to yourself. If you work extremely hard you will get rich.

I am sorry about your mate. Not certain that fits in with my comments about working hard. He is obviously not in a position to work hard.
I hope he gets proper treatment and the care he deserves. Worryingly I have read about several ex servicemen sleeping rough on the streets. That's an outrage and should never be allowed to happen.

I'll let you into a little secret, money isn't everything.
I'd take health and happiness over wealth every time, something that money cant always buy.

Very true, my posting was in reply to the assumption that only the privileged few can get rich.

I guess it depends on your definition of rich; it's obviously unrealistic that everyone in society can have boundless wealth - and as Wrencat has pointed out, many people don't want or expect that. But it's not tenable that the vast majority of wealth and power is so concentrated amongst a tiny group of privileged elites, whilst people who work hard and try to get on find that their efforts don't give them a decent lifestyle. With use of foodbanks at unprecedented levels and record employment levels existing alongside record numbers of people in poverty - something has to be wrong. And that's aside from the absolutely disgusting and degrading treatment of people with additional needs that has become the trademark of the Tory government and it's media mafia.

I sincerely hope that people vote for change on the 8th June - because as Mrs May pointed out just yesterday - as if she were the leader of the opposition and had no part to play in 7 years of government - enough is enough.
