We can't keep sweeping it under the carpet. When our amazing new prince - MC Ice, as I believe he is to be called - becomes King MC Ice I, he'll be king of the whole country, including Humberside. Does that mean that Hull is among the last four cities in the country to have been nominated, ie all the others have had a go before, or is Hull in the semi-finals for City of Culture ?

The other thing of course is that its a Europe-wide competition to regenerate lost causes - thats why Liverpool won it one year and why Bradford tried to get it too (although the reply was , "Not THAT much of a lost cause, please"

'ull isn't the H-word that I meant.
By H-word, I was referring to the now-non-existent 'umberside, that wonderful new region foisted upon residents of the East Riding and some Lincolnshire yeller-bellies back in '74.

How anyone expected people on either side of the Humber to take kindly to being lumped in one area takes some believing.
Then, when the bridge opened ... well ...
