I suspect that behind the scenes, especially on cross party committees, the MPs do work well together. However, that's not the way they are presented or wish to be presented(?) to the public.

Liz Truss, Chief Secretary to the Treasury, just said Clarke's customs union "lost by more [than May's deal] and people are still trying to bring that back". Except it didn't. It lost by less (6 vote defeat to May's 58 vote defeat). This inability to look at numbers and do a simple subtraction, votes for minus votes against, is staggering. Will Liz Truss, the daughter of a University Professor in Mathematics, face the same scrutiny as Diane Abbott when she got her numbers wrong? Will she be attacked in the main stream media, on social media and have a multi page thread about her on the sin bin? I doubt she even knows! It was one of her memorable appearances at the Tory conference. I think she may have been agriculture minister or something. She said she was "busy opening new pork markets". It made a regular appearance on HIGNFY.
