They do not. As far as I know, not a single Christian would suggest that we should stone a rape victim to death. So, if they pick and choose which parts of the Bible they consider offer good moral guidance, they must have a point of reference other than the Bible.

But religion isn't a necessary precursor to kind acts. If man hadn't invented God, good people would still exist and would still help those less fortunate than themselves.

some cracking buildings, granted, but at massive human cost.

Yes but you can't bash religion for helping people because if it wasn't there someone else would step in.

The religious started doing these things as justification of their existence.

As science moves on and more discoveries are made it makes religion redundant, they know this and have tried to reinvent themselves.

If I said to you "I'll feed you, cloth you and shelter you. I get to live in a beautiful home with everything I need but someone else has to pay for it, and if I want I can rape your children with no prosecution." what would your response be?
