Hamas are the ones responsible for this all flaring up again by continually firing rockets into Israel who have every right to hit back.

All the 'right on' liberal whining from the Hamas apologists that we are getting also forgets the fact that Hamas are a terrorist organisation who rule the Palestinian people through fear and intimidation.

Finkelstein simply tells it like it is, without allowing his Jewishness to get in the way of clear and logical thought.

Neither, it's all part of nicking Palestine for themselves because God promised it to them.
Trouble is, there are enough "Christians" in the US bible belt who literally believe that the second coming of the messiah can't happen until the Jews are returned to Palestine. (See Revelations)
As Finkelstein says, it's not dissimilar to the way that Native Americans were pushed into reservations by "settlers".

Care to define "Israel" ?
Take a look at the maps that Cod'ead posted and note the tiny corner that Israel has squeezed people into in Gaza..
No rockets are fired from the West bank and, hence, Israeli encroachment simply continues almost to the Jordan.

Hamas are only in power in Gaza, not all Palestine.
They are not blameless but they were also elected.

Personally, Id have every sympathy with the Israelies if they decided to dismiss completely the hand wringing apologists for a terrorist organisation like Hamas, and took whatever measures they thought necessary for the safety of their citizens.

I'd also paint in very large letters on any remaining standing walls in Gaza City the legend "Consequences," and hope that someone within the local population would have the wit to google it.

By the way, how's that Arab Spring coming along?

Uncomfortable fact #1:

Hamas has REPEATEDLY OFFERED since the elections a peace settlement along the June 67 borders (with recognition of Israel's "Right to Exist").

These are the same terms specified by the UN General Assembly.
