No, probably not. The church decided many, many centuries ago which of the gospels were the right ones for inclusion in the bible. They included the ones that were true and excluded the ones that weren't. How did they know? God guided them.

Correct, it isn't relevant. Many Americans may think it's relevant but that doesn't mean that it is. The advancement of the USA is not attributable to religion.
