Andrew Strauss to enter politics : Thu Aug 30, 2012 11:03 pm
http://www.politics.co.uk/news/2012/08/ ... ew-strauss

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article ... ction.html

Been a few mutterings about this on Twitter and in some of the blogs and papers.

Might not be as far fetched as first would appear. He's a well educated and articulate bloke and he could capitalise on his high popularity. I can see the Tory party being keen to pursue this if they are trying to detoxify their brand, as he has that universal "decent bloke" appeal.

Good luck to him if he goes for it even if it is with the Tories.

What a lover. Has now gone down in my estimation. No wonder Peterson took the p out of him.

Aye just look at the dynamism that other sports people, turned politicians have brought to the political spectrum. Who can forget the political wit of such heavyweights as Colin Moynihan or Sebastian Coe?

Wouldn't surprise me if Strauss jumps in with the blue-rinsers.
Would just confirm me and my mates long held opinion that he's a pr!ck.

Perhaps the o.p hasn't had enough life experience to spot them as yet?
It comes.

Oh by the way, I think The Mail have got their photo caption wrong in that link (above), I'm fairly sure that the person on the left is Strauss and not Mensch.

I could be wrong though.

His universal appeal would vanish overnight IMO. If you join an unpopular party and so must clearly support their aims (destruction of the NHS etc) you can't expect to be considered anything other than "one of them".

Why on earth would you wish him good luck when he would be cheering on Lansey and Gove and arguing Osborne is doing a good job etc God only knows. And that is exactly what he would be doing.

I think he would soon be seen as just another privileged person from a different world who got a political career handed to him on a plate.

It shows just how desparate the tories are, if they're seriously considering replacing someone who couldn't handle the job and quit, with someone who has equally little or no knowledge of what the job entails.

What is the likelihood of Kevin Sinfield going into politics when he hangs up his boots?

I believe he is slightly to the left of Fidel Castro.

He'd be stood at Castro's left side given the choice.

I wonder why it is though that the sports people that you can think of who go into politics always seem to join the Tory party, is there some link between the "self" attitude of sports and that particular party ?

An interesting blog dissecting how the story came about, and why it doesn't stand up
