Work out apps : Wed Jan 23, 2013 11:31 am
Alreet, Just getting back into the gym and i have downloaded the Strong lfts 5x5 app. its pretty good but there is only 6 excercises with a gradual increase each session.
As a former rugby player, I only know certain weight movements in the gym.
Does anyone know of any other decent apps for strength conditioning and endurance.
cheers

Try 'Full Fitness' from the iTunes App Store. It's about 69p, and there are more exercises than you'll ever need, plus the facility to record your workouts.

If you want guidance on how to do exercises, I'd suggest looking them up on Youtube. Take a look at a few examples (if you just pick one, you might pick a poor example)

There are such a wide variety of ideas on training programmes, I wouldn't rely on an ap for that. Theories and opinions vary between suggesting full body workouts three times a week, to splitting five ways and training each area once a week. Then there's the whole subject of sets, reps and rests between sets.

BTW, my training is currently a four way split (chest & tris, back and bis, Legs, Shoulders & abs) doing three exercises of three sets each for the four major groups, 4-8 reps and 2-3 minute rests between sets.

The app I mentioned does show pictures of the movements, and has the option to download videos (I think). There are also several sample programmes, which aren't too bad. I'd agree that nothing matches getting some expert advice, however.

On that note, if the OP would like to PM me, I am a qualified (though not currently practising) personal trainer, and I'd be happy to answer any questions he might have with regard to programme structure and whatnot.
