Since "speaking" to the owner on the South Wales RLFC messageboard, my earlier opposition has all but evapourated.
A tidy and honest fella. So I've turned my massive intellect to suggesting club nicknames. Since I don't post on CTID (or CTTBU - Crusaders till they betrayed us) any more, even though the WRL press officer still insists on it - the t i t, I posted it on the natural home of the new club and on here.
It's a no-brainer really. Never been used before and more hardwired into South Wales history than Rorke's Drift and heavy industry.
South Wales SILURIANS! The rock hard Brythonic (not Celtic) tribe that kicked the collective bottoms of Claudius' Roman Legions.
Such a name NAILS the new club to South Wales.
Though I'm not looking for a prize, don't nick it, cos it's published by me at two locations (one of which the new owner reads).
Not even looking for credit, cos a club is the sum of its parts - players, coaches, staff management and supporters. Anyone who DOESN'T realise thatis doomed to failure and can just clear off to North Wales as far as I'm concerned.

Luck is a combination of preparation and opportunity
Just to avoid confusion Starbug is the username of Steven Pike
SOMEBODY SAID that it couldn’t be done But he with a chuckle replied That “maybe it couldn’t,” but he would be one Who wouldn’t say so till he’d tried. So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin On his face. If he worried he hid it. He started to sing as he tackled the thing That couldn’t be done, and he did it!

Ha! Seems quite appropriate then based on how some people think we live down here.
Okay so SOME are not far off (naming no places) but that's not the point.
Much as I love the Doctor Who series (I know most of the locations they filmed at and am often found at "Bad Wolf Bay" - or Trwyn y Gwrach to give it its real name - "Witch's Nose" in your language) I think I'll still imagine the South Wales SILURIANS being closer to the original Silurians rather than the cave-dwelling fish-people that appeared with Jon Pertwee.

Phil Davies, the new owner just came onto our message board "South Wales RLFC" and let us know. There is a shortlist of 3 nicknames.
CELTS (ugh!) PHOENIX SCORPIONS
Of them I'd say Phoenix, but I fear it may be the name the toilet boys (WC - Wrexham Crusaders) abandoned. - CELTIC.
The home strip will be "black with a hint of pink". The away one yellow with a hint of black (though hopefully not an inverted toilet boys jersey).
Tickets will be £8 and £4 concessionary.
Was checking out the site, i've got high hopes for the new club from reading it, the guy in charge seems to know what he's doing and care about the club, and the fans are having there say right from the start and the tickets are cheap which will attract alot of people during these difficult economuic times. It seems a hell of a lot of crusaders fans have changed to the new team which is good (though bad for the crusaders). Not sure about black and pink but at least you will be unique.
SWRLFC are my new championship one (and welsh) team, i should be supporting crusaders more as my welsh heritage is from wrexham but i love the underdog, hopefully be able to afford a shirt after christmas (away one).
Best of luck.
p.s. would you mind getting promoted and tonking fev for me?
