Whilst we're on the subject of satellite comms, you know when on TV any report is coming from far countries via satellite link, there is this noticeable delay while the signals go up into space and back down. What's YOUR explanation?

Why do they bother driving a satellite van with a huge fukkoff dish on the roof which they align to the comms satellite?

Clearly there's no Sky phoneline in the broadcast locations- eg desert war zones - so aside from sending fake satellite equipment around the globe for no reason, and presumably paying batallions of engineers to pretend to be using satellite - none of whom has ever spilled the beans that they're not - how do they get the pictures to your screen?

I have only asked this question because I am a bit bored and I hope your answer will be as funny as I think it might

In reply to your angry ad hominem ramblings. Back in the 80's-90's the system was obviously a little different than today. Before the phone landline introduction the workings of the systems went a bit like this. The Sky installer would erect the dish/Aerial. Then cable clip to the Box location. Then to receive the correct package a Sky Chipcard would be inserted into the box giving you your selected package. If an upgrade was required a new card was issued by post or an engineer visit for re- chip your original card to the specific package. See why use chipcards if the Satellite was worthy of allocating packages. Its because they don't use satellites.

How does a guy in Lincolnshire pilot a UAV over Afghanistan in real-time without the use of satellites to relay his inputs?

Bare in mind that most of Afghanistan hasn't got comms towers, even if you could somehow transmit across towers from the UK, across Europe, and into the middle east and beyond in real-time, which you can't.

Same as any other Aircraft does triangulation. All aircraft use GPS ground based triangulation.as i already proved earlier in the thread.. simples.
