Not to mention the fact that human life as we know it, even by the most conservative calculations, has existed on earth for around 200,000 years; the bible says that Jesus did his thing around 2000 years ago - so what was this intelligent creator doing for the 198,000 or so years that preceded his intervention? And why, given all his goodness and majesty, did his intervention take the form of child sacrifice?

The basic principles of religion are cruel, tyrannical and oppressive, and have been disproved to such a convincing extent that it's entirely risible that people believe this bunkum in the modern world. If it makes you feel better, feel free, but for goodness sake, don't inflict it on other people and don't expect any special treatment because of your religious sensitivities.
