Sentence two of my post:

I hope the club has a strategy for enticing people through the turnstiles......

I see what you're saying Tony. What i really meant to say is that the strategy should be to only have a stadium with a 3,000 capacity.

I'd stay off the pop Tony - it's affecting your ability to interpret the written word.

SOMEBODY SAID that it couldn’t be done
But he with a chuckle replied
That “maybe it couldn’t,” but he would be one
Who wouldn’t say so till he’d tried.
So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin
On his face. If he worried he hid it.
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn’t be done, and he did it!

The whole thing needs a catalyst. In 1984 - 13 Australians provided that catalyst - crowds averaging 6,000-7,000 within 3 years (admittedly on the back of Championship and Challenge Cup success). If towns like Castleford and Warrington can draw decent attendances then there's no reason it can't happen again here. Hopefully - trophy success can be the catalyst - on the back of a strong marketing strategy.

My comments on this would be:

The ground isn't finished - so still a building site under construction - same old failure staring the spectator in the face. The roof might be on - but the terracing has disappeared and I can see the car park through it now.

The NRC is a mickey mouse comp at opening round stages, and nobody generally expected Barrow to be a very entertaining match to watch anyway. (i can't remember a free flowing game against a cumbrian team ever in 30 yrs watching Fax)

I would have hoped that the team could settle down - it doesn't help in my opinion to be still trying out halfback combo's - when the "maybe" supporters see a top match on telly (Widnes) with the caoch saying he has picked his best 17, we can judge how successful the Directors have been on spectator numbers.

People are having to watch the pennies

The pubs shut at 2 pm on a sunday

The Labour clubs shut at 3

No sunday shopping

B and Q didn't exist

The only footy on the TV on sundays was ' the big match ' which was a repeat from a saturday game

Nobody had heard of bar b ques

Even the canned/ bottled beer was crap

The biggest problem we as clubs outside the top flight have is the lack of atmosphere at matches caused primarily by the lack of fans

What is needed is all 20 NL/Championship clubs to sit down round a table with a blank piece of paper on it

That should be the starting point

Also this meeting should take place outside of any influence of the RFL

Had a chat the other day to a mate on this, what we need is a "final", any final will do, cup or league. The aim this year should be to get to at least 1 final.

Being a member of a local amateur rugby club I can see the affects Halifax appearing in a big game has, out of say 30/40 people associated with Boothtown rugby only say 5 follow fax, when we have a big game, say play off v Cas other year or semi theres about 20 attending the game instead of 5, a final is needed to kick start it all.

getting to a final doesnt always work. i went to leicester to watch halifax town play the play off final a few years back and we took 10,000 there and the first home game after that the crowd had only gone up by 150-200 fans.

i think sending fax players into schools would help to get kids in but that would mean parents would have to come and they might not like the prices.

the whole free for kids idea is great but its how to accomatdate the parents into a package that would suit parents and kids.

If Halifax say decided to admit free admission for all, the attendance would still be only 3500.

Win the league this year, and erm. play in the same league next year for your endevours.

RL is becoming tedious
