Everyone seems to be overlooking Thompson. It sounds like he was one of the star players in the England academy games, and did a decent job when he played for us last season. I think it's unlikely he will get a shot at fullback with mathers in the squad but surely he has to be a contender for a wing/centre spot?

Not overlooking Thompson it's just that we have so much squad depth that it's hard to pick a 17. I believe this is our strongest squad in a while bar one or two positions where we could do with adding some firepower.
