"Castleford's biggest home crowd of the 1991-1992 season wasn't quite 12,000 while on average they'd sit around 6000 but the noise, the chanting and the singing just blows you away" - Tawera Nikau "Standing Tall"

"I can tell you the atmosphere was extraordinary at Wheldon Road on big days. The ground held around 15,000 people, every one of them close to the action on the field and the noise would be enough to send a rumble through the town" - Malcolm Reilly "Reilly - A Life in Rugby League"

Just in case anyone wants to discuss sensibly this time.

Some Leeds fans think they may be looking at moving to a new ground.

The saying 'bent as a 9 bob note' has now been dropped.....corrected phrase is 'bent as the RFL!'

Paul Caddick would know as much as any developer in regards to the real cost of such ground improvements, as well as a real time business plan for re-payment of the investment in todays market conditions.

The Rhino's as a club are thought to have one of the best 'club setups' in SL, and also to be one of (if not the most) financially viable clubs. Hence, if Leeds are forced to re-consider the risk of investing in their development plans, it doesn't bode well for others.

I've mentioned it before however, it is worth looking at the Baltic Dry Index to understand why their development is on hold. Investment, development and major projects are extremely high risk when the market is in the state it is today. Paul Caddick will use enough aggregate material, to know that the market is naff at the moment.

wiki quote.....'Because dry bulk primarily consists of materials that function as raw material inputs to the production of intermediate or finished goods, such as concrete, electricity, steel, and food, the index is also seen as an efficient economic indicator of future economic growth and production. The BDI is termed a leading economic indicator because it predicts future economic activity'

Due to its general condition the capacity of the south stand was reduced 12 months ago and the Health & Safety Executive gave Leeds a 2 year licence for the use of the stand. My understanding is that this 2 year period expires at the end of next season at which time the stand will close completely.

It will therefore be interesting to see where Ali's brass band will find themselves!

The Southstand has never recovered from the Grand Final in 2007, if we could recreate that same atmosphere at our new stadium it would be awsome. Add to that some of the atmosphere we created at the play off semi final defeat at Saints and no other set of supporters would be able to match us.

Financially viable because none of the profits go back into the upkeep of the ground. Leeds are very lucky they co-habit with Yorkshire CC.
