Player Development : Fri Mar 05, 2010 8:11 am
Is it just me that reads threads like the "sherwin replacement" and instantly my blood boils? Why can't we develop our own players for this position, or any other position you'd care to mention? I hear all the nonsense about players being too young, not big enough etc etc....
The Sherwin example, for starters, hardly a man mountain is he? So it shouldn't take too long at all to get one of our lads up to his physical size. We have a young halfback that everyone was raving about last season, can't he do the job in a years time? Yes, virtually a whole year to develop him!!! A huge amount of work can be done in that time .
Ahh, but they are too young some may say? Well, lets take a promising young lad, lets say, a certain 18yr old and pack him off to HKR---whats this? He's a first team regular within 6 months? And what? He's playing in the pack too? WOW, how did they do that? he's far too young (according to the Cas book of bullshit coaches)
So we have Westy and Owen for the past few years, Shenny before that and Chubbs a bit before him. All the others have gone............
Why can't we develop enough of our own players?
