The saying 'bent as a 9 bob note' has now been dropped.....corrected phrase is 'bent as the RFL!'

Happy New Year to all!!

Personally I think it is going to be one of the RFL's biggest white elephants yet, however just out of interest who will be going to the game? and who will be watching it on the box? and why!!!

(You can choose up to 4 options)

I think it's going to be a huge success - 7 great games for fans who have been starved of SL action for four months? The only thing that could upset it is the weather imo

The fans hunger for action, and the derby aspect is the positives.

There are far more negatives that will weigh heaivily in peoples minds. Here's a few.

I would think that the 400 mile round trip would be off putting when considering the much spoken about cost of fuel at present. Especially so close after Christmas, when most aren't too flush withcash anyway....never mind the current economic climate....etc etc

As a family game, kids will be at school Friday and many of us will be at work. Hence the thought of a 200 mile journey on Friday night (after work) or Saturday morning is not too apealing. Especially if the temperatures are in the minus figures and roads are icey etc.

Monday is a normal school day and work day. So a 200 mile drive home on Sunday night, in order to be ready for Monday is not all that appealing. Neither will using a day of holiday from work.

One of the enjoyable aspects of this normal Bank Holiday event is having a few beers, a jovial atmosphere in the streets and making a weekend of it. However it could potentially be 'brass monkey cold' on the streets and many will have to drive home on Sunday meaning no beer time.

Don't even get me started about it historically being the worst time of the year for snow.

All the above, more than ever point towards people opting to watch it on TV.

I have a hat on standby, and I am prepared to eat it if we don't see the lowest attendance figures of any of these events.....Gazemous are you perpared to stand by your optomistic view of the RFL's wonderous planning and do the same? (Mine is a is a kiss me quick hat....chewy but low in calories LOL)

There's a lot of truth in that, but …

It's been shifted to the opening weekend because that's what the fans overwhelmingly said they wanted. As the saying goes: be careful what you wish for …

Daytrip for me, ticket is already bought with the 50% off voucher that was with the ST.
£12.50 for 4 games, it's a no brainer surely?
Unfortunately the trains don't allow to see all the last game so I'll be driving down and back.

Sounds a little bit like the watch that I was offered in India...£15 for a Rolex, what a deal!!! It was the £500 air fair that was the killer.

the best place in the world - cas

i wont be going cos i can't afford it, unemployment does not allow the luxury of going to watch cas play rugby unfortunately and as i don't have sky sports i will have to listen to it on the radio if it is on.

dodger, would imagine the whole thing will be on 5live sports extra again, or via the BBC website or the Yorkshire matches at least on Radio Leeds.

No idea, but certainly a large number of people on the VT were constantly whinging about the weekend in Edinburgh and Cardiff saying it would be a brilliant SL opener.

But I see the negatives, and think it'll be expensive - as it is whenever it is in the year - so people might be put off. But it's hardly any different to an away game against Harlequins, and plenty of people go to that fixture without complaining about kids being at school on the weekday before/after.

I can't wait, and can understand people not going due to cost (I missed enough Cas home games last season for that exact reason - given I live a few hundred miles away from our home ground), but I don't really understand any of the other reasons people don't want to go. It just seems like complaining for the sake of complaining.

Not really no, I don't really like the taste! I'm happy to be optimistic about the weekend, and I think I'm not alone in really looking forward to the games I see (only there for the day). You're not alone in being pessimistic about it, but there has been a huge wave of pessimism to this weekend every single year since it was announced, so I can't really see a massive change in the crowd (up or down) happening this time around.

It will undoubtedly be a horrible weekend if we do have significant snowfall, which is the major worry I do have.
