I think some people (Wakey fans it seems) are missing the point of that extra zero. He's not saying Westy or Shenny are worth £5m, he's asking what is the point in selling our top youngsters for a meager £500k? SL is supposed to be turning a corner with emphasis on home grown kids. To then sell your best kids would be plain daft, especially if we aren't to get that much of a gain from it. £500k would get us another couple of top players or help pay the wages of what we already have, but since you'd be losing a player to start with you're hardly in front. £5m would be a large chunk towards the stadium and future of the club. So he's saying why bother losing our best kids for little gain, especially when us fans are keen as mustard to keep them and it seems the players want to play for us? The only way we should be tempted to lose our best young players is if the offer is crazy money, say £5m.
You could look at it another way. If we can keep producing kids that are worth say £500k and sell them on we'd be set up for life off the cash. But better still, if we could keep producing top kids worth £500k but don't sell them we'd be even better set up for life because we'd have a team full of stars. And that's what we should all be aiming for. Back to that £5m tag, it would be only worth losing your top kids if the price was really worth it.
....and i wouldn't sell Goldy either. He's still trying to find that settled position, he doesn't always make the best tackle, he sometimes throws a stupid pass to touch or opposition but i wouldn't swap him. He's Cas through and through, he's a great character to have around the team and fans and he's a sponsors wet dream. I can't remember the last time we got so much publicity from one person, (Dwain Chambers aside). He's in the Sun every other week when most other papers can't even be bothered to mention "rugby" and "league" in the same sentence. I think in one paper our coverage of the Wigan game said "and Wigan entertain Castleford". If it wasn't for Goldy we'd never be in the national papers. Obviously i do want more than just a news story of a player in my squad, but when you couple all that with his determination, (playing when he's bust for example) and skill i wouldn't sell him to anyone. We spotted his potential, we brought him over and no struggling team are going to buy their way out of trouble this time with one of our players!

That's exactly what I meant - not market value, simply what they are worth to Cas as a club.
And in all fairness - I was talking 5m for the pair!

Agree with every sentence . But this story grows and grows and im not to sure our club are been honest when they say no approach has been made, when it has .
What's strange about that. If Wigan make a big cash offer Cas would have to talk. As I'm sure we would if they came in with £500K for Westy/Shenton etc.
End of the day every player has a price. What happens when Saint Helens comes in with a cash offer for Brough? If its big enough I'm sure Wakey would sell him.
How did you manage to sneak Wakey into this?
Cheap shot.
