THE CO-OPERATIVE CHAMPIONSHIP NEEDS A STRONG WIGAN

Rumours around town though that he'll be back against Wire, saying he'd told people he had got his ban reduced to one game. How true this is i don't know. I wouldn't believe Goldy though if he told me right now i was sat bored at work today (and i am).

Heard that too and I'm as cynical as you as to whether it's true or not.

Surely the appeals committee don't sit on good Friday (also a match day), do they? If it was heard before Friday I'm 99.9% sure we'd have heard something in the press.

Goldy wind up IMO

I thought you played well in the first half, didn't deserve to be 8 - 0 down, just capitulated in the second half which is a bit of a concern for you guys.

That's pretty magnanimous if you ask me. I thought we were way too panicky in the first half - a bit of composure finishing and we'd have scored at least twice in front of the WRE (and doubtless put a different feel on the game as a result) but every time they got close they turned into nervous schoolgirls.

Fair play to Wakey though - Job done.

As for Monday, does anyone know if it's on the radio? I'm not spending ten hours in a car to risk watching that again.

Case Number ON/180/09
Name Ryan McGoldrick
Club Castleford
Shirt Number 23
Match Keighley v Castleford
Competition Challenge Cup
Date 05/04/09
Incident considered Use of forearm whilst in possession of the ball in 37th minute
Decision Charge
Details of Charge / Reason for NF Law: 15.1 (a) Detail: Strike with forearm in possession of the ball Grade: C
Range of Recommended Sanctions in relation to Charged Grade* 1-4

Date of Disciplinary Committee 07/04/09
Evidence provided DVD

Decision On Charge
Player plea Not Guilty
Summary of CM's submissions on the Charge / evidence The player is charged with misconduct for a breach of Law 15.1(a) during the above Match. The Match Review Panel reviewed an incident which occurred in approximately the 37th minute of the Match. In the Panel’s opinion the player struck a Keighley player (Presley) on the jaw or to the neck with his forearm whilst in possession of the ball. The incident was penalised by the Referee at the time. The Panel believed that this contact was reckless. The Panel believed that the player should have been aware that there was an obvious risk of potential injury to the Keighley player in using his forearm in the manner he did.
Summary of Player's submissions on the Charge / evidence Ryan McGoldrick - accompanied by Terry Matterson, Head Coach. The incident happens very fast. Ryan is trying to palm the defender Presley off - Ryan has thrown his arm out and just before he hits him with his arm Presley starts to backtrack and he throws his head backwards therefore Ryan misses the 'target'. Mr Matterson questions whether Ryan actually makes contact with his opponent as he gets straight back up off the floor and Mr Matterson fails to see how any decent contact can have been made with the Keighley player. Ryan McGoldrick - hasn't made contact with his elbow to the opponents head. Remembers the tackle and feels his upper arm may have made contact with the opponents shoulder.
Decision Guilty - Allegation proved
Reasons for Decision The panel have watched the DVD again and have taken into account your submissions. They are satisfied there was contact during the incident between the two players. The panel feel this started as a handoff but poor technique meant contact ended with the elbow. A player is responsible for his own actions and therefore the allegation is proved.

Decision On Sanction (where found to have committed Misconduct)
Summary of CM's submissions on the appropriate sanction
Summary of Player's submissions on the appropriate sanction In mitigation no injury to the opponent. Vice Captain - leading member of the team.
Aggravating Factors Previous record - a warning letter this year for similar offence.
Mitigating Factors
Reasons for Decision The panel have considered the penalty and in the players favour they feel that this was at the lower end of reckless - the player was using the hand/forearm to hand off the player but this was poor technique but no injuries were caused, The panel also have to take into account that you have been here twice before in previous seasons, and this season you have had two warning letters regarding your contact, one for a similar offence.
Suspension 2 matches
Fine £300
