Yes we may have been robbed. But I tell you who I blame. Matterson. Get your coat what sort of a coach sends his team out with 16 men and has a young hungry kid sat on bench for full 80 minutes without using him. its hard enough in this league without having to do it a man light.
GO NOW PLEASE
Who exactly do you think should have come off to allow Thompson to come on? That was comfortably McGoldrick's best performance of the season. After last week, there is no way, failing injury, that Sherwin would come off. Ainscough scored a hat-trick. Wainwright was playing well. Shenton, Evans, Chase? None of our backs deserved to come off today.
I think the reason Thompson didn't get on tonight is he is not a forward, which is what we needed. However, TM had to make the choice to put a back on the bench in case Sherwin did get injured and have to come off. In hindsight, given the heaviness of the pitch and the resulting affect on our forwards (am I right in also thinking that Ferres went off injured as well after the first try?), someone like Netherton would have been great to spell as SR or hooker. Unfortunately, TM cannot see the future. I think he made the right choice in putting Thompson in the 17, and the right choice in leaving him on the bench. He had nothing to add that wasn't already there.
At the end of the day, we had lost that game a long time before that nonsense decision at the end. We should have had it wrapped up by half-time. What was lacking out there today was not a hungry teenager, but an experienced leader to instill some discipline and composure.
