Agree Mathers had a bad shift last night but all player's have them from time to time.

I will rest a little easier next season with him as the last line of defense than Mcgoldrick

In his defence, he only dropped the ball because he had just been smashed in the face by someone's forearm. That's probably why he was still a bit out of sorts when they scored afterwards.

True, he wasn't that great for the rest of the game, but I have seen enough of him this year to say that he will be a damn sight better than McGoldrick, and I'm happy with that.

Good player, on the odd occasion he manages to really stand out for wire n that's not a bad thing for us, better than mcgoldrick for sure but I can't help but feel sorry for Owen, I know coming from injury will be hard but he is a first class fullback and constantly gets played on wing, Amos Roberts this year was amazing at fullback put him on the wing when returning to full fitness and he was woeful quiet all game, people say the positions are similar there not, Owen has too much skill on offer to waste, I just hope we will be trying him in the centres like Leeds did with Lee smith, wing then fullback then centre before his trip to union

Whats wrong with my post? people have put posts up saying that he played well in the cc final i've put this this to balance the argument (could have added the wire v wigan game immediatly after he signed where he also had a terrible game). People seem to think we have signed a cracking fullback when we havent, we've signed a player with the same problems as mcgoldrick in defence with less quality in attack and that worries me.

Owen should be our future at fullback i agree, wasted on the wing, and better than mathers at fullback.

my girlfriend says i'm immature, and it's time we set aside one day a week so we can talk things through as adults.
like THAT'S gonna happen in the middle of conker season!!

Re: Richie Mathers : Mon Sep 20, 2010 1:46 pm
If we sign nobody theyre not happy, if we sign somebody theyre not happy ffs

I think all the signing so far are good uns and will improve the team, even Fozzard.

I'm far from a glass half empty kind of guy, but that doent mean i always agree with what the club does, i think signing mathers was a mistake and his wage would have been far better spent on getting us a quality scrum half.

As for our other singings i'm very happy with fozzard, emmit and orr.

Youngquest is another liability i feel.

Mathers may not offer as much in attack as Mcgoldrick but to say he has the same problems in defence is laughable...Mcgoldrick is one of the worst tacklers at the club!

In an idea world Owen would be our full back, and going down under for the four nations in October, but at the start of the season and raring to go the coach still wouldn't pick him there

Mathers and mcgoldrick have missed nearly the same amount of tackles this season, and theres more to defence than tackling, mathers drops as many balls as mcgoldrick and is out of position alot of the time like mcgoldrick.

And bear in mind this is when he is being coached by a former international coach with alot of trophies under his belt and in a team of superstars who are usually on the front foot. He's going to be under alot more pressure at cas and wont be coached as well.

We will have to disagree,i would still fancy my chances of a one-on-one with Mcgoldrick five yards from the tryline, and i haven't played the game in years

Mind you it wouldn't surprise me if T.M plays Mathers at centre
