There are a lot of grey areas in the game though which doesn't really help - this being one of them. The debate about dangerous tackling techniques is going to rumble on I feel too - another grey area which is causing a lot of unrest with fans.
I think a lot of the problem with this comes with the fans and the belief that we as fans feel we deserve to have more of a say than we do. I don't think there is an issue with tackling technique at all. Other than it being discussed with coaches and refs early in the season its hardly been mentioned since other than by coaches of teams that have just taken a beating or by the fans that are aggreived about a particular incident that has or hasn't been punished.
The coaches and refs decided that several types of tackles should be outlawed and the week later Lima was banned for a "cannonball" or "chop" tackle as it was called at the time. Since then nobody has even been called up for this type of tackle, the only type of tackle that seems to be getting watched are chicken wing tackles and I believe most of them are just bad luck and I don't recall anybody being injured by one.
