I don't think it's a bad choice - how many good coaches are there out there looking for work anyway. What do people expect your not Wigan or Saints. I'd have had him at Wakey though not as a first choice. I think the love fest everyone seems to have with Mr Gentle has muddied the waters. He looked interesting but when you boil it down I can't see where he's that much better than the rest other than he has the most recent NRL experience.

At least you didn't sign some of the real duffers mentioned.

Is that a little unfair to the guy? He is a coach and does not control the purse strings or allocate the budget, that is down to the chairman and the money guys. His salary is determined by his employer. (If only we could determine how much we got paid eh?)

Wigan were desperate to keep their top flight status and would do anything to retain it at that time; didn't they break this rule on a different occassion too?

As for Leigh, the owner had financial problems with his own business so was not in a position to fund the club. Not many clubs are self sufficient.

I hold no candle for IM as a Wire fan as it was an incident at the HJ that was the final straw in his sacking at Saints. However, people write things in books in order to sell them, and you can't doubt IM's fantastic success at Saints - nor the more modest but still significant achievements at Leigh. The fact that he could do nothing right at Wigan was almost certainly as much to do with the evil empire of Lindsey and Whelan as his own talents.

Can we still call him Mildred?

If he as a season like he did at Wigan I reckon you will call him worse.
