Here you go, my email box had this
We've come a long way Thursday 4th March 2010
I wanted to use the first entry in what will be a monthly blog to give you an update on the progress of our new stadium project.
A major aspect of the project was gaining the outline planning consent. This resolves the Highways and Environment issues which can be major, time consuming obstacles. It is important they do not slow down this important community project.
There’s no doubt that the project is very challenging and complex but we are working continuously to move things forward and I remain extremely confident that the time, effort and finances already committed will be worth it, resulting in the delivery of a high quality stadium for Castleford Tigers.
Last week I attended three stadium meetings, the most significant being a meeting of all the parties involved in delivering the project. In attendance was the Leader, the Deputy Leader and the Chief Executive of Wakefield Metropolitan District Council as well as several senior council officers. Stuart McLaughlin, the Managing Director of developers, Waystone PLC was also present.
This meeting was designed to discuss the key issues in relation to our development strategy and we all left the meeting with action points and responsibilities to achieve before we gather again in three to four weeks.
This week we are focusing on delivering on our action points and responsibilities so that we can demonstrate significant progress at the next meeting.
I would like to make it clear that everybody involved in the project understands the challenge of delivering the new stadium within the right timescale but the good news is that everybody is extremely committed to achieving this.
It is also worth pointing out that the location and site of the project is one of its real strengths. The architects who are in the frame for the design project can see the opportunity it gives them.
The landmark location and its visibility from the M62 motorway means that interest in the project has been extremely high and we believe this will bring the venue and the Tigers some strong commercial benefits.
Recently Xscape reported their 20 millionth visitor to the centre making the site one of the leading leisure destinations in the UK. It is very encouraging all round.
There are certain aspects of the development that we cannot yet make public and this is frustrating for us all but – when the time is right - we will ensure that the fans are the first to know about the key facts and events.
Please stay signed up to castigers.com and we will keep you up to date with all the important Tigers news.
Finally thanks for your tremendous support of the Castleford Tigers...the club would not function without its supporters.
All the best.
Richard
