Cameron Phelps, Ewan Dowes, Epalahame Lauaki and Danny Washbrook

Washbrook already signed for Wakey

It looks like we'll also get Dowes and both us and Shudds are linked with Phelps; I gather that Lauaki is off to Wigan.

Lauaki could be a great player, he just needs to control his agression and stop giving away silly penalties.

A frustratingly stupid player - he can be like a wrecking ball and has a decent offload, but far too easy to wind up and as you say, a total liability. I can't see him adding much value at Wigan, other than making Gareth Hock feel clever.

So we can't even get any of the hull scraps neither, when is our recruitment drive going to start?

See, on the one hand I want to think that if we are not being linked with people being released from other mid-table clubs - thats good; and it is becuase if Hull don't think those players can propel them from 8th to top six, then why should we?

But on the other hand, we do run the risk of looking daft if we and up scrabbling around in the market at the death picking up whats left. I am in a glass half full mood today, so I would prefer to think that as clubs release players here and in the southern hemisphere when their season ends - that our business is being done quietly and efficiently and as such news will come later in the play-off series....... Here is hoping.

For what it is worth, didn't need Washbrook with the youngsters we plan to retain. Dowes I do rate highly, but excepting our injury debacle of this season, it is our strongest position. Phelps is a difficult question, I actually think Basil could get a lot out of him - but needs a lot of attention and we already have an enigmatic player in our backs who doesn't seem to settle in one position and attracts a lot of attentoin! Echo what has been said about Lauaki, potentially devastating.

When quality players of SL standard become available that will improve the current squad. As yet none of the players signed by the others would have added to what we all ready have at Cas.

My major concern is that we are losing 4 or 5 players for definate and others always being linked with other clubs, so our squad as got to be strengthened some way or other, as we saw this season, injuries can hit hard.

We've lost one first teamer - Widders - and one reserve grade, who has hardly played first team. Hardly the major crisis some some to be stating.

Can understand the frustration Bill, especially when our near neighbours are going on a signings splurge but our position is completely different to theirs. They're looking to make a complete overhaul of their squad whereas we will just be looking to make a few changes to try and take the next step forward.

Can remember 3 yrs ago when we made raft of signings, a lot of which were announced by the end of that season. There were plenty of quality players signed by other SL clubs well into the winter that year.

Top players are always available so no need to rush in. The club maintain they're leaving new signings to the new coach which is an approach I wholeheartedly endorse. Millward will need to take a good look at the current squad before he can decide which positions are most in need of strengthening and he can't really do that until he's finished his commitments with Leigh which will be a week on Sunday (unless they get shocked by Sheffield this week).
