Maybe so but all teams are finding their feet. That was just Round One of a very long, tiring season. Look how many players suffered injuries today? To make a bold statement like 'Cas won't finish any higher than XYZ' is quite laughable given we don't know what may happen in the future.
This was the first game where our first team squad had played an entire 80 mins together without the chopping and changing and altering of tactics like during friendlies. In addition to this, we STILL didn't have our entire first team squad out. And furthermore, we also the likes of Walker, Arundel, Holmes and Milner, young kids that are not seasoned SL players, playing 40/50 minutes and in the case of Arundel and Milner 70 minutes. Not bad, eh?
It's going to be a difficult season - do I believe we can make the eight? Yes. Do I think we will? Who knows. We're going to face some competition and I think some Cas fans are getting overly excited and ambitious tipping us to finish 5th and 6th. I think the scoreline today was a fair reflection on the game. Cas dominant in attack and some issues in defence, perhaps borne out of indiscretions and ill-discipline but certainly deserving of that margin, which should have been bigger had Dixon brought his kicking boots. You also have to factor in the general positivity that has lifted your side in the last 24 hours. Kear will have told them to go out there and not just make up the numbers and to embrace the occasion instead and they look like they did that for you.
In contrast for Wakefield, I thought they put up a resilient performance for the part and showed some class in patches and I think you may surprise a few people, especially if you can get a couple of extra bodies in like stated.
