Look mate im not trying to mickey people off or owt

and im sure it would be nice to ge a "cheers mate" or something once you get to the other end, i just dont think its a cause that should be associated with bitterness if you get me.

And despite your thoughts i really would encourage you to come do it again, according to AL there's some decent Media involved plus the mayor of Wakie walking with us, so im sure that thank you will come your way then if it ever will

what you say reidy...... can i twist your arm mate???

I was doing it for Moana and her kids. Least I would have expected was some support from his club.
I could have walked for one of my own causes or a cause of our clubs choice, but I really do feel for the young family that Adam has left behind.

If his own club don't support fundraisers from other clubs, where the hell is the incentive to bring fans together in situations such as this?

I'm damn sure (as I'm sure you are too) that Moana and family appreciated your efforts.

I too read Snowie's reaction on the Wakey board but (while I'm usually only too happy to have a pop at our mutual friends) I think this particular one's best left to the club's own fans.

I'm not knocking ur efforts, do what you please, but like I say, I'm gonna support my own clubs causes now.
Moana sent us a nice message, which I was chuffed to bits about but to be honest, it's prob the last time I'll go outta my way for a.n.other club.

Good luck with whatever you do.

Don't expect any thanks from the club, I certainly won't put myself out again.

Woah Reidy, me and Acko have done other sponsored events, we did a walk to Cas for a young Cas girl, the same walk Adam did, we recieved no support from the Cas club but so what, we helped a girl with a brain tumour to get treatment. Thats why we do it, to help the person/family and into the bargain i've met fans from other clubs like yourself/Mark/crackers and the Cas fans off here.

At times we get miffed about things like clubs supporting events, let me tell you Salford can't be arsed supporting Leon Walker and won't help me do it either, but again i can't help that.

So do me and Acko throw the towel in or do what we can to help, i think you know the answer to that don't you.

Plus im pretty sure BigAL and the other organisers aint doing this on request of the club........ there doing it off there own back and have the decency to invite others along.

They get nothing from the club for doing it so why should me or you

We are doing it to help and support Adams family with the backing of the Watene fund, this is set up outside the club.

We also ENJOY these events and meeting fans from other clubs, Statler and Dettoriman form here to name but a few.

If clubs wish to help support these events we'll take it, otherwise we just get on with it.

Ackos just ordered some more shirts and the fundraising goes on untill we feel its time to stop and we've done all we can.

Not about the walk but ties in with the Topic about Adam.

Here's a message i got from Ex-Cas legend Adrian Vowles earlier today:

The Trades and Labour Hire Burleigh Bears and Wynnum Manly, will on Saturday be playing for the Adam Watene Memorial Trophy, donated kindly by the Burleigh Leagues Club. Adam Watene (Cook) played for both clubs and was a very popular figure particularly at the Bears. Adam played 24 games for the Gold Coast Vikings, 22 games for Wynnum Manly and 83 games for the Burleigh Bears in his QLD Cup career. Adam played in the Burleigh Bears 2004 QLD Cup Grand Final victory against East’s Tigers before moving to the UK to play with Castleford, Bradford and his last club Wakefield Trinity. Adam was a cult hero at Castleford and Wakefield due to his massive frame and bullock like runs.

Adam passed away suddenly last year over in the UK, at the age of 31 leaving behind his wife Moana and two children Arana and Ena. Adam still has many friends and relatives on the Gold Coast and many of them will be present at the game on Saturday along with Moana and the kids to present the trophy to the winning team

It is only fitting that both clubs play for the trophy in Adam's name and also know that his legacy will live on for many years to come.

Regards

Some ifo from oz:
BURLEIGH forward Robert Apanui has celebrated his 100th Queensland Cup game for the Bears in style with an outstanding two-try performance in his team’s 30-12 victory over Wynnum Manly.
Burleigh dominated possession from the outset and it took just four minutes for them to open their account when man of the moment Apanui split the line open to score. A beautifully executed set play from halfback Brent McConnell paved the way for a try to lock Matt Pow in the 12th minute. The Nick Parfitt conversion handed the Bears a handy 10-0 lead.It became 14-0 in the 27th minute when Apanui was in the right spot at the right time to score a lucky try from a grubber kick. Burleigh all but wrapped up the game on the stroke of half-time when Adam Fielder raced away to score a stunning try.The breathtaking movement also featured Jacob Fauid, McConnell, Apanui, Parfitt and Pow.
Bears coach Jimmy Lenihan challenged his players to produce another consistent 40 minutes of football in the second half. Lenihan got his wish as the Bears skipped away to a 30-0 lead following tries from McConnell and Daniel Issac. However, the hungry Bears couldn’t quite complete the mauling as the Seagulls added a touch of respectability to the scoreboard in the final three minutes with tries from Chris Birch and Matt Seamark.
The Burleigh squad was presented with the Adam Watene Memorial Trophy by Adam's wife Moana after the big win. A number of players including Man of the Match , Robert Apanui played with Adam in the 2004 QLD Cup Grand Final win over Easts and they were proud that they were playing for a Trophy in memory of Adam Watene.
