Wing and centre are specialist positions and we need to pick them as such.
I think sticking Evans, Shenny or McG on the wing is a serious error - Look at NRL teams if you want to see what specialists in specialist positions can do.
If Richie Owen is our best fullback, then he must play there.
If Michael Shenton or Ryan McGoldrick and James Evans are the best centre's at the club -then they start there.
If Brent Sherwin and Rangi Chase are the best half backs at the club then they play there.
End of discussion, if Ryan McGoldrick is good enough to be picked in any of those positions, then he gets the nod,if not then he doesn't start - it seems pretty simple to me that the best players start in their best positions, you don't accomodate someone for the sake of it unless it is a Lockyear, Fittler, Tallis, Johns and I think if you asked Goldy yourself, he would only want to be in the team on merit in a position he merits.
Once you have injuries, I still think the same rules apply.... If Owen gets injured or Shifty or Rangi - then you have to decide is Brierly or Thompson, to name but two are a better option to fill in than a utility player.
The one thing from this I would really like Terry to think about though is that if Rangi is injured and you play Brierly there, we might not win but he will be better for the experience next time.
But Terry, honestly and I am a big fan of yours and a supporter - If Rangi is injured and you ask Widders to fill in at stand off, we are still unlikely to win and nobody benefits for the experience..... Personal opinion of course!
For what my opinion is worth, Full Back is Goldy's best position lately becuase I have not seen him play at centre regularly - but he is not as good as Richard Owen overall in that position so he has to wait for his run on start and would be valuable off the bench, but playing on the bench is also an acquire skill and doesn't work for everyone!
