Nowadays it is hard to find a pub in Castleford which serves good food.
Back when Lockwood had The Boat in Allerton Bywater, that was the place to be, we used to go every Saturday and you would never be dissatisfied. Not many managed to finish their big mixed grill, that was a treat even for the biggest of appetites. Brian even brewed his own beer in his last year or so of ownership. We went there a couple of times after he left but it wasn't the same. I hear it's reopened fairly recently but I haven't been yet.
Other than that you only really have The Three Horse Shoes, The Old Mill and The Glassblower on a Saturday, unless you want to go to a chain restaurant.
I've only been once to The Three Horse Shoes and I enjoyed it, would go back.
The Old Mill used to do decent meals but it has decreased in quality since last season, which is a shame, been twice this season before Saturday matches and there was hardly anybody else in.
Which leaves The Glassblower, I wouldn't advise a meal in there, expensive and poor quality, only good for Guest beers and cheap sessions.
The Singing Chocker just off the M62 has mixed reviews, some say the whole experience was rubbish, others say it was good, wouldn't take the chance with that or The Brewers Fair type pubs personally.
If you fancy Pizza, Chinese, Mexican or Italian then Xscape is your place, you get what you expect really.
As for The Fox, now an Indian Restaurant, went there a couple of years ago for New Years Eve, it was nice, they serve traditional and non traditional Indian food, not often you get cheese on Indian food but they do a lot of things with it. Do buffets on Sundays too now. Haven't been back since but I definitely would.
Hope this helps.
